Lloyd Lancer Sylio Gonzaga, the alleged mastermind of the brutal ambush-murder of Atty. Mia Mascariñas-Green, is reportedly a member of the Verano Gun-for-hire Group, according to a Criminal Investigation Detection Group (CIDG) document.
The CIDG did not elaborate about the alleged involvement of Gonzaga in a criminal syndicate.
A fresh document obtained by The Bohol Tribune from the CIDG said the latest background information about Gonzaga, who was arrested by law enforcers in Davao City on Friday, has been submitted to the Intelligence Division of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Gonzaga, according to a website, is the general manager and proprietor of Red Hawk Security Agency, which has a listed business address at 631 Purok Diamond 1, Barangay North, Tasip, Tagum City 8100, Davao del Norte.
The company website contains the following description: “Lloyd at a very young age of 12, already a sidekick of his father as a branch manager of unnamed security agency and as time passes by, Lloyd was mold to learn the essence of fulfilling the needs of others in term of providing security services for their protection and satisfaction, until became a branch manager late 2004 and decided to put up his own security agency as a sister company of three main national security agencies in the Philippines, now is still going strong.”
A group of anti-crime crusaders has acknowledged that “the principal accused (Lloyd Gonzaga) and his family are influential, well-connected and well-oiled.”
“Their legal counsels are already making scheming and wily legal maneuvers,” the group, dubbed as “Justice for Mia, Kalinaw sa Bohol (JMKB) Movement,” said in a statement.
Without citing the alleged link of Gonzaga to the Verano Gun-for-hire Group, JMKB movement noted that “there are other violent groups and criminal elements, that are threats to Bohol’s peace.”
Taking into consideration of Gonzaga’s legal and logistical firepower, the group said, “we must never let our vigilance and guard down.”
“We must continue to protect Bohol,” JMKB said in the statement.
Suspect Gonzaga, 34, is scheduled to arrive in the province of Bohol on Monday to face various criminal charges in relation to his alleged orchestration of the gruesome ambush-murder of Atty. Mascariñas-Green.
Atty. Mia was ambushed on February 15, 2017 at a road junction in Dao District, Tagbilaran City, while she was driving her Toyota Innova car on her way home in Loon, Bohol. All her three kids, two of whom are twins, and their “yaya”, had witnessed how the mother-lawyer was shot at close range by at least four assassins.
Gonzaga and Romerico Benegian immediately surfaced as the alleged gunmen, with Gonzaga as the alleged mastermind, in a murder that received condemnation from all over the world. Two other unidentified gunmen were tagged as Gonzaga’s companions.
Despite a massive hot pursuit operation by Panglao and City Police Stations, Gonzaga and his cohorts were able to slip out of Bohol.
As days and weeks went by, hopes to find justice for Atty. Mia started to dissipateas Gonzaga had remained at large.
Meanwhile, Atty. Mia’s husband, Stuart James “Estong” Green, a British national, had returned to the UK, which he believed as the safest place for his three children.
In the UK, Mr. Green sought publicity help from giant newspapers, with global circulations, in his quest for justice for his murdered wife.
Back home, friends and supports of Atty. Mia had expressed apprehensions on the seemingly slow-paced manhunt of Gonzaga.
But on June 30, 2017, at about 3:15 pm, police operatives from the CIDG-7 and CIDG-11 led by Police Supt. Warren E. Dablo, in cooperation with Davao City SWAT, Davao City Intel Branch and Bohol Police Provincial Office, raided a residential house located in Barangay 29-C, Juan Luna Street, Davao City, where Gonzaga was arrested.
On Monday (tomorrow), Gonzaga will be brought to Bohol and will be presented to Judge Jorge D. Cabalit, of Regional Trial Court-Branch 48, who earlier had issued a warrant of arrest for Gonzaga for alleged violation of Republic Act 10591, or the “Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.”
For four counts of attempted murder, Gonzaga will be presented to Judge Leo Moises Lison, of RTC Branch 3.
Gonzaga is also facing a murder charge at the Regional Trial Court-Branch 1 under Judge Lindecita C. Arcamo.
As soon as the news on Gonzaga’s arrest exploded social media sites, Boholano communities expressed gratitude to police authorities for not giving up on hunting and arresting Gonzaga.
“We are thankful for the prayers and support given, and the efforts done, by the municipal government of Antequera, the Barangay of Dampas, the City of Tagbilaran, the province of Bohol, the Philippine National Police (PNP) particularly the CIDG, the relatives and friends of Mia, various civic groups, and the entire Boholano community,” said the friends and loved ones of Atty. Mia including several concerned citizens who organized an anti-crime movement.
“The arrest of LLOYD LANCER GONZAGA y SYLIO at 3:00 p.m. in Davao City yesterday brings joy to us,” according to a statement released by the “Justice for Mia, Kalinaw sa Bohol (JMKB) Movement.”
“For more than four months, the Boholanos were agonizing due to the barbaric and heartless murder of Atty. Mia Manuelita C. Mascariñas-Green – a prominent Boholana lady lawyer who championed the causes of the oppressed, the abused women and children and the environment,” the group said in the statement.
The crusading group noted that brutal and senseless murder of Atty. Mia “disturbed not only the peace of the Boholano community but also the peaceful mind of the Boholano people.”
“We succeeded because we are relentless in our fight,” the group said.“This is another manifestation of a great Boholano spirit.”
However, the group the quest for justice for Atty. Mia is not yet over because “the right hand man and second hitman, ROMERICO BENEGIAN, and the six other unknown murderers are still at large.”
Atty. Mia was the lawyer for Conrada Otero Blomqvist, the mother-in-law of Lloyd Gonzaga, who claimed ownership of Alona Embrace Hotel, a 38-room upscale resort hotel located in Barangay Tawala, Panglao town.
Blomqvist and Gonzaga were engaged in a bitterly-foughtlegal war that had destroyed family relations, according to Blomqvist in an earlier interview.
The legal battle between Blomqvist and her son-in-law gripped Atty. Mia’s passion for justice, which eventually cost her very life. (Bohol Tribune Newscenter)
